October 2021
All movies I saw in the cinema for first time during the month of October 2021 ranked from best to worst.
Yet another 6 films instead of 9.
(SPOILER WARNING FOR A FILMS PICTURED ABOVED!)
#6: Addams Family 2
I didn't like the 2019 film. Found it to be very bland and had horrendous CGI, especially compared to what came out around that time too (Toy Story 4, Frozen II, Secret Life of Pets 2 and I'd even argue the sequel to Angry Birds) It shouldn't have gotten a theatrical release.
I also thought it didn't warrant a sequel. The only thing I honestly liked from the original film from 2 years ago was when Lurch played the theme to 'Mr. Rogers' Neighbourhood'.
*
Man, this was quite boring. It seems to think "loud and obnoxious equals funny", which it literally doesn't in some instances.
I only laughed at the "He gave me the finger." joke, everything else was unfunny.
Absolutely cringed at the 'social distancing' joke. I hate when films/TV shows reference events and things that happened over the past nearly 2 years of the global pandemic.
This film name dropped Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish in two scenes, which done nothing for me, and I'm a mark for them two!
3/10

#5: Halloween Kills
I've never saw any of the previous 'Halloween' films. I was also not really interested in seeing this.
*
This was pretty decent. It definetly lives upto the 'Kills' sub-title, insanely high kill count.
The replication and atmosphere of 1978's 'Halloween' in the flashbacks and opening were cool, even included a similar sounding score from that era too.
I was surprised by how little screentime Jamie Lee Curtis had, as she quite honestly stayed in one location throughout the film. Obviously, it's just setting up for the potentially "final" showdown between Laurie and Michael in 'Halloween Ends'.
Good horror film with incredible tension and warranted jumpscares.

#4: Denis Villeneuve's Dune
I've honestly not been THAT hyped for this film compared to most people, who have been touting it as the most anticipated and best movie of 2021.
I've got nothing against Denis Villeneuve, I absolutely loved his film 'Prisoners' and really enjoyed 'Arrival' and 'Sicario'. I'm just not a fan of Timothee Chalemet, like at all.
The visuals from the trailers looked cool and I was intrigued to see more of Greig Fraser's beautiful cinematography, as he previously was the cinematographer on 'Rogue One', 'LION' and also the upcoming 'The Batman'.
*
It has stunning cinematography, but I literally couldn't get into the story, nor the characters.
Josh Brolin's, Oscar Isaac's and Jason Momoa's performances were great. I was disappointed in the amount of screentime Zendaya had, as she was one of main reasons I wanted to watch it, along with Grieg Fraser's camerawork.
One of the songs for the antagonists sounded reminiscent of 'My Enemy' from the 'Amazing Spider-Man 2' OST, which isn't too surprising as Hans Zimmer composed both scores for Dune and TASM2.
'Prisoners' remains my favourite film from Denis.
7.9/10

#3: Rons Gone Wrong
This honestly looked amazing. A mashup of 'Mitchells vs The Machines' take on technology plus their over-the-top comedy mixed with 'Big Hero 6's Baymax. The humour in the trailer was funny.
*
Wow, this was so great. Really funny, heartbreaking but also heartwarming.
I knew I was gonna like it since it reminded me alot 'Mitchells v The Machines', but I didn't expect how much I would.
I loved the references to MARVEL and Star Wars, with the B-Bots transforming into characters like Black Panther and Darth Vader. That was pretty cool and unexpected.
The friendship between Barney and Ron was amazing.
9.1/10

#2: Venom 2: Let There Be Carnage
I moderately enjoyed the 2018 film, found it to be okay but was obviously missing the inclusion of Spider-Man (most notably, Andrew Garfield's iteration).
Since there was a two week gap between both U.S and U.K release dates for the sequel, I inevitably had the mid-credits scene spoilt for me.
I honestly much prefer this "buddy cop" version of Venom and Eddie, bickering and very dysfunctional.
*
This was really entertaining, definitely the type of film I wanted 3 years ago and was far better. It doesn't take itself too seriously, like I feel the original one did.
Brilliant directing from Andy Serkis.
The relationship between Eddie and Venom was my favourite part of the film, so funny.
I can honestly see ALOT of clips from this film being used in Tweet responses or even just memes in general, the rave sequence definitely has a few funny snippets. "Thank you, one person!"
Woody Harrleson and Naomi Harris were great.
As a fan of the show 'Inside No.9', I did not expect Reece Shearsmith to show up in this.
Not gonna lie, Stephen Graham was probably the worst part of the whole film. I've got nothing against him as an actor or as a person. Just his American accent was not convincing at all, it was borderline cliche. I honestly would've preferred if he just spoke in his own Liverpool accent, might've been more tolerable that way, to be honest.
I must've only watched the ending to the mid-credits scene, when it leaked, as I didn't know Eddie transitioned through the multiverse before seeing the Daily Bugle news broadcast.
This film was filled full of epic action with hilarious comedy spliced in between.

#1: 007: No Time To Die
I've only really saw Spectre (which I watched for the first time last year, prior to the original April 2020 release date), out of all the 24 previous Bond films.
This was my first Bond film I saw in the cinema also.
I'm not gonna lie, I was honestly only really hyped for this movie because Billie Eilish was announced as the performer of this film's theme. I absolutely love all of her music.
It's a little upsetting knowing this will be Daniel Craig's swan song as the iconic spy. I still remember him getting casted, almost 20 years ago.
*
Man, this was amazing!
The transition into Billie's 'No Time To Die' was excellent, I got chills when I heard the first few notes. Obviously just my emotional bias talking, but, this film had the best title sequence in Bond history.
The action scenes were an absolute spectacle. I loved that Craig's Bond finally got to use the type of gadgets and quips the legendary film spy is known for.
Daniel Craig, Lea Seydoux, Rami Malek, Jeffrey Wright and Ana De Armas were great!
Craig's final scene was beautiful, powerful and brutal all at the same time, very reminiscent of Arthur Morgan's scene in Red Dead Redemption 2.
The soundtrack reminded me alot of 'The Dark Knight' trilogy, especially during the final act, which is to be expected since Hans Zimmer composed it.
Epic finale for an epic version of James Bond
