June 2022
All movies I saw in the cinema for first time during the month of June 2022 ranked from worst to best.
(SPOILERS FOR THE FILMS PICTURED ABOVE!)
#3: Jurassic World: Dominion
This was my first cinema trip of June 2022 and also my first Superscreen experience in Cineworld since December 2019 during a partial 2nd viewing of Jumanji: The Next Level.
Personally, I think the Jurassic series (1993-now) dipped in quality right after the first film. But, I will say, I was happy when the news broke that Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern and Sam Neil were all finally returning together for Jurassic World: Dominion. The Jurassic World films have all been quite decent up to now, with both Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard carrying the 2015 and 2018 films.

This felt like it went on forever. The first hour was quite dull. But, the last 30-40 were both eras of Jurassic era collided was pretty great. The pacing was very off though.
During the Malta sequences, I honestly thought I was watching Chris Pratt's high-budget audition to play 'Uncharted's Nathan Drake. Dark shirt with sleeves rolled up, riding on a motorbike through a busy foreign town.
The animatronic to CGI transitions for the dinosaurs felt a little jarring at times.
Perhaps my favourite part of the entire film was Jeff Goldblum, he stole the show as usual. I love his Nat Geo series 'The World According To Jeff Goldblum'.
It wasn't the absolute best. But, it seemed far better than what all the prior reviews were alluding to. The Superscreen experience definitely boost my enjoyment.

#2: Elvis
Not a Elvis fan in the slightest, but the very first trailer to this film did entice me, with the cinematography, lightining and also a sobering version of the track "Unchained Melody". I always got chills whenever I saw it in previous screenings.

Wow! For the first hour or so the pacing and also editing felt like it was going over 200 miles per hour from the moment the lights went down, which I was surprisingly okay with. It was honestly better to get almost straight to the concert performances than having a lot of long and drawn of scenes taking up most of the runtime.
Austin Butler embodied the spirit of Elvis effortlessly. I was blown away by the screen test footage of him that was posted online prior to the film's theatrical release. There were times during the film that I thought they replaced Austin with a digital resurrected version of "The King" his voice, look and mannerisms were that good.
I loved that 'Unchained Melody' beautifully ended the film, with an absolutely powerful cut to archival footage of the 1977 performance showing how even at his worst physical health, he could still put on a show.

#1: Lightyear
I was quite intrigued to see this ever since the 2020 Disney Investors Day (Where the likes of Flora & Ulysses, Luca and Turning Red were unveilled) announcment and Chris Evans was confirmed to play the titular character.

This was actually pretty incredible. So many callbacks to previous Toy Story films and references to other space centered franchises. It goes without saying that this film, like many of the Pixar's backcatalog, is visually stunning, especially during the space flight sequences.
Chris Evans and Taika Waititi were amazing. I honestly didn't expect Isiah Whitlock Jr to show up in this and I'm glad there was, at the very least, a PG version of his "Shiiiiiit." phrase, in the form of "lightshiiiield".
The twist of an older Buzz being Zurg was quite great, which IMMENSLY reminded me of the 2011 video game 'Spider-Man: Edge of Time'' with an older Peter Parker being the founder of the evil corporation Alchemex. I'm relieved they didn't go with the rookie from earlier in the film being Zurg, which I was somewhat expecting.
While I will say the film in general wasn't really needed, I really enjoyed it.
