September 2022
All movies I saw in the cinema for first time during the month of September 2022 ranked from worst to best.
(SPOILER WARNING FOR ALL 4 FILMS PICTURED ABOVE)
#4: Ticket To Paradise
I literally only wanted to see this because of Billie Lourd, everything else about it did not interest me at all (Clooney, Roberts, a "trying to stop a wedding story", etc).
*
Man, I was insanely glad Billie was in the film for more than 5 scenes because I would've been far more bored than I already was. She truly was the saving grace of the entire dull and unfunny 91+ minute runtime.
4/10

#3: Don't Worry Darling
My final cinema trip of September 2022. This was one of my most anticipated films of 2022 up until a couple of weeks ago when all the behind the scenes controversy came to light and the Venice Film Festival fiasco. Even when it was anticipated, I just wanted to see it for Florence Pugh. Now, I'm ONLY doing it for her.
*
This movie was certainly "a movie". Everything before the twist was quite dull and overly drawn out. But, the last 30-ish minutes were pretty great.
Florence was amazing as always and perhaps the best part of the film, overall.
The cinematography and score was pretty decent.
Quite a disappointing second directorial outing from Oliva Wilde, after how she treated Florence during production, I don't really care for anymore.
4.7/10

#2: Hatching
This was my first Secret Screening since Crawl all the back in mid-2019 but my first that is open to the public.
I've never been particularly thrilled about the Secret Screenings that everyone (Unlimited card or not) can go to, hence why I didn't go to the 2 they held in the past. Sorta diminishes one of the original perks being Unlimited Card Holder.
It was a little weird that the trailer to The Woman King played twice IN ROW, the exact same one back-to-back. The person in charge of making the advert/trailer reels probably didn't realise it.
*
I'm not one for foreign films, nor horror films that rely on jumpscares but Hanna Bergholm's 'Hatching' was a pleasant surprise.
I loved the animatronic/puppet design of "Alli" during the early first half of the film. I honestly found the relationship between the bird version of Alli and Tinja to be very endearing.
Siiri Solalinna absolutely stole the show with her dual role performance.
The film kept me invested with it's intriguing story and grotesque visuals throughout the entire 91 minute runtime.

#1: Bodies Bodies Bodies
I was first drawn to watch this film because it starred Rachel Sennott and Pete Davidson. Rachel, I personally think was amazing in 'Shiva Baby' which I saw back in January this year. I liked Pete Davidson's semi autobiographical performance in 'King of Staten Island' and his comedic SNL Chad skits.
As a GenZ-er myself, the idea of a horror film set around a group with no scary monsters or brooding masked killer seemed incredibly intriguing.
*
A24 distributed another banger, this time in the horror variety. It was quite intesnse throughout its entire 91+ minute runtime and unpredictable, second-guessing each character and their motives, including Rachel Sennott's Alice.
Both Pete Davidson and Rachel Sennott, along with Maria Bakalova carried the film imo.
My investment in the film did somewhat die when Alice got shot, which was okay because there was only perhaps less than 20 minutes left until the credits.
