June 2019
#9: Secret Life of Pets 2
First movie of June I watched. Amazing visually, beautiful version of NYC.
I enjoyed it though it did drag a lot at times.
Harrison Ford had the best performance.
Overall, I liked this but prefer the original as it stayed soley in NYC compared to this.
7.5/10
#8: Late Night
I had no intention to watch this. But I needed in order to fill 9 spots on the review. This was alright.
It should've been 15-20 minutes shorter as the perfect ending would've been Katherine Newbury telling the rival replacement Daniel Tennant that she's staying as the host of the Late show as the last 15 or so minutes felt like a reshoot just so they can seem politically correct.
In conclusion, I moderately enjoyed this.
6.9/10
#7: Ma
This was really intense and gripping. Octavia Spencer was perfectly cast as Ma. Sweet and innocent but can also broody and intimidating.
I chose to watch this as I prefer to watch thrillers over straight-up horrors as the jump scares are methodical and have purpose. The only jumpscare that truly got was a egg flying at window, surprisingly.
I wished Haley was the main focal point because I was more interestred in her compared to Maggie.
It did end very abruptly but bittersweet as Sue Ann's final moments were with Ben.
All in all, I really liked this though Hayley(McKaley Miller) wasn't the main focal point of the revenge arc from Sue Ann.

#6: X-Men: Dark Phoenix 3D
This was a terrific culmination to the 20th Century Fox X-Men franchise. Enjoyed every minute of it.
Ngl, Mystique's death was unexpected and upset me incredibly. Jennifer Lawerence's portrayal was my favourite out of all version of Mystique(that's just me being biased).
Sophie Turner's portrayal was my favourite as well(again, me just being biased).
The CG was amazing, especially in 3D.
The space sequence is intense and visually spectacular.
Jessica Chastain felt like the 2019 Jafar. Everytime she showed up it brought the mood and excitement down a ton.
I was upset that the film's theme song didn't play not once during the scenes. It was a staple to the entire X-Men films.
I will admit, I kept thinking Professor X was gonna suddenly switch to Hedwig, Dennis, Patricia or even The Beast.(Split reference)
All in all, I enjoyed this immensely and can not wait for what happens to the X-Men regarding the MCU.
8.9/10
#5: Brightburn
I was mainly interested in seeing this because it was directed by James Gunn and starred Elizabeth Banks.
This was amazing though surprisingly gory. Without giving too much away, I will say one of the kills does rival most of the Mortal Kombat's Fatalities. I had to mutter "fuucck!", it was THAT gruesome.
Honestly, I'd love if James Gunn made a actual Superman film, he captured the flying segments perfectly in this.
I'm glad Elizabeth's character's death happened off screen.
Billie Eillish's "Bad Guy" was the perfect song for the credits.
All in all, I enjoyed this Regime Superman-esque film.

#4: Toy Story 4 3D
I wasn't too thrilled when this was first announced as I felt the 3rd film was the perfect bookend to the franchise.
I hope that this is the finale as it ended with a bittersweet moment between Woody and Buzz saying goodbye to each other.
Ducky and Bunny stole the WHOLE show. They were voiced by the kings of modern comedy, Key and Peele. Every scene they were in was hilarious. The credits scenes with them were really funny.
It's amazing seeing how far the CG had come since the first film back in 1995. The textures and lighting are near photo-realistic now.
I was surprised by how non-emotional it was.
I really loved this and hope this is the finale.

#3: Child's Play
I honestly wouldn't have went to see this if it didn't have Mark Hamill as the voice of Chucky and starred Aubrey Plaza.
Both reasons definitely delivered. Aubrey's performance as the kids seemed believable. Mark Hamill's voice acting was superb in this, innocent but has that uneasiness to it at the same time.
This was amazing. Surprisingly funny but keeps to the dark, brutal and horrific tones like the prior. I'm glad the buzzsaw kill happened out of shot, that would've been WAY too graphic.
The friendship between Chucky and the kid was sweet and heartbreaking at the same time knowing Chucky's turn to evil was inevitable.
The origin to why Chucky becomes a killer was excellent. Being inspired by Texas Chainsaw Massacre and all the other slasher films.
The only real jumpscare I got a fright from was a false one with Aubrey Plaza suddenly walking into shot.
All in all, I really liked this and quite frankly wouldn't mind a sequel.
9.4/10
#2: Men in Black: International 3D
When I first found out about this early last year, I wasn't too thrilled.
But when I heard Tessa Thompson was going to star in it, I had to watch.
Let me just say, the 3D aspect definitely improved the film for me, especially the scenes with Tessa Thompson(more specifically, the scene were she first talked to Pawny)
Pawny definitely stole the show for me, risking his life trying to protect Tessa's character.
I was gutted that Frank The Pug was absent from this, he was a true staple to the franchise.
After watching this, I can see Chris Hemsworth being the next James Bond especially during the scene with the 3-headed snake alien.
The aliens reminded me of the ones from Valerian(which I honestly didn't mind).
All in all, I really loved this film and hope there is a sequel to this.
9.8/10
#1: Yesterday
Was never a huge fan of The Beatles but this was fucking amazing in all possible ways. Very funny, very heartfelt.
First off, it was shocking how they CG'd/used a really good John Lennon lookalike for this movie. It's clever how they diverted my expectation(I was indeed expecting Paul McCartney and Ringo to make a on the nose cameo) but instead the swerve was Paul and Ringo were the ones that died and John Lennon lived.
It was a great story of how someone went from nothing to being the biggest song writer in the world due to an supernatural situation.
Kate McKinnon's performance was great although really corny playing a music producer.
The conclusion although sorta funny, seemed very dark as Jack would have to live the rest of his life not having certain things in his life(ie, Coke and Harry Potter). I was gutted that they left 'Hey Jude' until the credits(It's my favourite Beatles song). This is somehow better than Bohemian Rhapsody, the cinematography and all that stuff.
