May 2019

Honorable mention: All My Sons
This would've been my first event screening. I mainly wanted to see this for Jenna Coleman. As well as Sally Field. Unfortunately, due to technical difficulties. I was unable to watch this performance. I am still keeping it on the list regardless.
#9: Tolkien
Never been a fan of LoTR. This film did bore me quite a bit. The war scenes were the only entertaining parts.
The final war scene was greatly edited how dragons and Sauron were included as figments of his imagination.
The constant flashback made the film seem longer than it should have been. All in all, this was ok but definitely not great.
4.5/10
#8: Godzilla: King of Monsters
I didn't watch the first one. This one felt very mediocre. Only enjoyed the kaiju segments. The human parts were boring and dull. The only character I felt invested with was Dr. Ishiro and they killed him off(somehow very beautifully). To say I enjoyed this, would be a over statement.
4.7/10
#7: John Wick III
Haven't saw the first 2. I saw a slight bit of the first one.
Man, this was awesome.
Great action sequences.
I was surprised by how gorey it was.
After some deaths, I was expecting a narrator to shout "John Wick wins, FATALITY!" They were THAT brutal.
There were some moments were I was like "That was pretty badass."
Great visuals of a neon-heavy rainy New York. All in all, I really liked this.
8.6/10
#6: Long Shot
This was my first film of May. I really enjoyed this. Having seen the trailer multiple times through past screenings, the film became like checklist(in terms of what scenes I was expecting).
It was very heartfelt at times though,  especially the concluding ultimatum. I was surprised to know Andy Serkis starred in this. This film had a great choice of songs, including "It's So hard to say goodbye" by BoysIIMen and "Its over now" by Roxette. Overall, I liked this film alot.
7.5/10
#5: Aladdin 3D
First off, I want to say I was quick to judge Will Smith starring in this.
I honestly thought he would've been cheesy and majorly ironic. But, I was wrong. He was perhaps the best part of it.
The major weak point for me was the casting choice for Jafar, he did not seem intimidating at all. Jafar is supposed to be calm and brooding. The live-action interpretation of Jafar felt more like a spoof movie.
Mena Massoud was an excellent choice for the titular character, looks exactly like his animated counter part.
Naomi Scott was great as Jasmine, but...she's no Emma Watson(that's just me being biased).
The majority of this film felt like a made for TV Disney film.
This was a decent reimagining of the animated classic, though it does drag quite a lot at times.
8.9/10
#4: Booksmart
I ONLY wanted to see this because it starred Billie Lourd. This was a lot better than Eighth Grade(A film I saw last month).
This film surprised the hell out of me. Honestly, I wasn't expecting much from this. But, there were alot of heartfelt and somber moments that I felt invested in.
The double plot twist was filmed and edited beautifully, with only the music playing while one of the main characters was roaming around the party visibly upset.
The soundtrack was also amazing. Some of the songs reminded me of Life Is Strange(One of my favourite games of all time).
I was delighted to see that Bille Lourd was in the film quite a lot, my only highlight from this film. She was in it alot, but not enough.
The one down side to this film was the hallucination scene. It creeped me out and just made me feel sick to my stomach.
All in all, I enjoyed this alot and felt invested during the somber moments.
8.4/10
#3: A Dog's Journey
I didn't watch the first 2 prior to this. This was really enjoyable.
A LOT of a heartfelt/somber moments. There was one shocking moment where the dog done an action it learned to do when sensing a certain smell that made me go "Oh shit, I didn't see that coming!"
Journey was the best subtitle for this film as you see a dog continue to press on and reunite a grandaughter with her grandparents.
Ngl, I was starting to get emotional during the culminating moments of this film. Really enjoyed this.
8.5/10
#2: Detective Pikachu 3D
I've always preferred Digimon over Pokemon. This was my first 3D since seeing TASM 2 back in April of 2014.
This film was amazing. The CGI for the Pokemons was outstanding. Great mystery story.
Mr. Mime stole the show with such limited screen time.
Speaking of limited screen time, I was disappointed with how little Rita Ora had.
She was literally there just for exposition on how the group captured Mew Two.
Overall, I really enjoyed this and recommend anyone to watch it no matter if like Pokemon or not. You'll have a good time.
9/10
#1:Rocketman
This is how Bohemian Rhapsody should've been! Raw, personal and true. An amazing musical experience.
What makes this outshine BR is the fact that Taron Egerton actually sings the songs compared to Rami Malek's dubbing/lip syncing.
A lot of hard hitting and emotional scenes. One scene especially made me quite emotional was when Elton reunited with his dad only to realise he still didn't love him enough and was now using his son to gloat to his friends.
Really loved the 'Tiny Dancer' and 'Rocketman' performances.
All in all, really enjoyed this.
Nearly two weeks have passed since I saw it and I can't stop listening to Elton's songs and Taron's performances.
This film definitely made me appreciate Elton John more than I already did.
9.5/10
