July 2019

#10: ANNA
I had literally no intention to watch this. Honestly, thought it'd be boring. I was right. It was long and dull. The "Let's fuck instead." line pretty much summed it up completely. More sexual scenes than action scenes. This would've been better of released in Russia instead of worldwide.

#9: Animals
Although the lead actress looked like if Hannah Spearritt and Sheridan Smith had a daughter. This did bore me!
4/10
#8: Lion King 3D
This was amazing. Honestly, the CG was fucking beautiful. Donald Glover was great as an teenaged/young-adult Simba.
Timon & Pumba definitely stole the show. Seth Rogen was somehow perfectly casted as the warthog.
The death of Mufasa was definitely done better in the original as well as the ancestral scene were Simba is talking to his dad up in the sky(I was disappointed how lackluster that scene was).
Where the animals lack in facial emotions, they make up for in movement and posture.
I wouldn't mind if they made a photo-realistic The Wild movie, that's one of my favourite Disney movies.
7.6/10
#7: The Queen's Corgi
I've honestly been waiting to see this since February this year. I could've just watched it on Showbox/TeaTV but I wanted the full experience cinematic. I wanted to see this due to Sheridan Smith being one of the voices.
This was really good.
The CG was especially great during the night sections.
Sheridan's performance was amazing as I expected.

#6: Blinded By The Light
This was my first ever Secret Screening. I was thinking it would've been Lion King or potentially Joker. Obviously, I was wrong.
I was going to watch this next month when it would be officially released for Hayley Atwell.
This was good but...still not as good as Rocketman. I did enjoy it, truly. I was disappointed of the lack of scenes Hayley Atwell starred in though. She was in it quite abit, but not enough.
The use of Bruce's songs was okay, especially when Javid first listens to them with projections and lyrics filling the screen.
I felt like this film didn't know what it wanted to be. Some scenes were as if they were ripped straight from a musical then some scenes were long, dull and somewhat boring.
I was good seeing the relationship between Javid and his father evolve. At first they are unstable terms but by the end of it his dad was finally proud of his son.

#5: Crawl
This was the second secret screening of the month.
This was great, an expertly directed horror movie by Sam Rami. Definitely reminded me alot of the scene from Spider-Man 2 where Doc Ock was in hospital.
Kaya Scodelario's performance was amazing!
The CG of the crocodiles was somewhat laughable at times. It was only decent(surprisingly) when the crocodiles were in a well-lit area and were wet/soaking.
The soundtrack was great, especially during the somber moments.
Overall, I enjoyed this
6.9/10
#4: Horrible Histories: Rotten Romans
I mainly wanted to watch this because of Kate Nash and Emilia Jones. I did enjoy the original TV series when it was on air a couple years ago.
There should've been a film 5+ years ago, back when the TV show was at it's peak in popularity. It's a shame the rat didn't show up throughout the film saying what is true/false. Although, he did make up for it during the credits.
Nick Frost was hilarious. Kate Nash and Emilia Jones were great. It shouldn't have been a musical, that did ruin it. All in all, I had a good time watching this.
8/10
#3: Midsommar
I only wanted to see this due to Florence Pugh was in it.
Well, shit! I did not expect it to be THAT fucked up. I know it's from the people who made Hereditary, but still. WOW!
Florence was amazing as expected. Definitely sold me on her screams and fear, she put her absolute all into this.
This was gripping, intense, chaotic and gross throughout. Probably the darkest(in terms of themes/visuals) film I've saw this year with Pet Semertary(2019) being a close second.
I didn't overly enjoy this although Florence Pugh being in it definitely kept me invested.
4.5/10
#2: Stuber
This was surprisingly really entertaining.
Great action scenes followed by some funny comedic scenes.
The "Top 3 Ryan Gosling movies" tweet sequence was fucking hilarious as well as the fight in the Outdoor supply store between Vic and Stu shout quips and one liners at each.
The "twist" where it is revealed Detective Vic's boss was the villain all-along was not shocking, I didn't see it coming. I was honestly like "oh okay, that's just happened." She was that boring.
The chemistry between Dave Bautista and Kumail Nanjiani was really great, you can definitely tell they had a lot of fun making this.
Overall, I had a good time watching this.

#1: Spider-Man: Far From Home 3D
This was my first film of July as well as the first 3D Spider-Man film I saw since The Amazing Spider-Man 2 back in April 2014.
HOLY FUCKING SHIT! THIS WAS THE BEST LIVE-ACTION SPIDER-MAN FILM EVER.
The best film I've saw in 3D ever
Mysterio's illusions were awesome, they reminded me alot from the Spider-Man 2 video game as well as Shattered Dimensions(Both are incredible games). I'm glad they done a cinematic Mysterio. Jake Gyllenhaal was amazing and the perfect pick for the character.
It was upsetting watching the "friendship" of Peter and Quentin Beck knowing the enivitable betrayal.
The swinging scenes were fucking amazing especially in 3D! I was so happy it ended with a final swing like the previous films(Rami's 1 and 2, TASM 1).
This felt like a live-action interpretation of a comic book to the fullest extent.
The one moment I absolutely loved was when Spider-Man suddenly grabbed Quentin while he was talking to his decoy, perfect showing off his Spider-Sense.
I marked out when J.K Simmons reprised his role as J.Jonah Jameson during the mid-credits scene.
The post credits scene was dreadful, even though it teased ever so slightly the Secret Invasion, Captain Marvel(film not character) killed my respect for the Skrulls, turned them into a joke.
I was expecting/hoping a actual multiverse tease like a nod to Tobey or Andrew, even animated Miles from ITSV, hell maybe a cartoon series('94, Spectacular, etc).
It was heartbreaking realising Stan Lee didn't cameo during this meaning Endgame indeed was his final appearance.
Zendaya's performance was the perfect fit for a modern-day equivalent of MJ, dorky as is Peter. That's why their relationship seemed logical and believable.
Tom Holland's portrayal of Spider-Man/Peter Parker is definitely growing on me. Didn't like him initially during Civil War, but FFH definitely changed my opinion for the better.
Might just be the bias talking because Spider-Man(in general) means alot to me but I REALLY FUCKING LOVED THIS!
